Setting Up Your Portal


The first steps to getting started with your portal

In that Greeting letter you were given several links to get your started.


  1. The first link is to get into your admin panel:
    • http://_________.searchking.com/bin/admin2/admin.cgi
  2. On left panel you will see your Admin Panel:

      Admin:

    • VIEW SITE = view your site.
    • HYPERSEEK = is where you will edit your site.
      • Statistics = is where you will Edit Categories and Edit Sites
      • Add A Site / Spider = this is where you will add, monoitor, delete and spider urls.
      • Display and Utilities

          Display

        • Template Editor = this is where you will change the coding.
        • Edit Qualifiers = qualify editors.
        • Feature Sites = Featured Site Plugin.
        • Edit Acceptance Letter = To change your acceptance letter.
        • Edit Rejection Letter = To change your rejection letter.

          Utilities

        • Site Reviews =
        • Webmaster Mailing =
        • Duplicate Report =
        • Initialize Top 10 =
        • Database Manager =
      • BANNERMASTER = Set up your banners.
      • E-MAIL ADMIN = UpGrade your E-mail.
      • CLASSIFIEDS = Sit up your Classifieds
      • MAILMAN = Mailing List Admin
      • IMAGE LOADER = Where you load your images.
      • PAGEHIT = create your data folder and default counter
      • AFFILIATE = Affilite Program tutorials
      • ORDERFORM = Order Form tutorials

        Utilities:

      • VALIDATE SITES = Validates links that you have entered in your database.
      • UPDATE COUNTS = Counts links in categories.
      • RECALC SCORES = recalculation to re-count the number of links to the website.
      • BACKUP DATA = to backup your data.

        Settings:

      • SITE OPTIONS = Sets your site configuration.
      • LANGUAGES = create a new language file.
      • PERMISSIONS = sets your permissions.

        Links:

      • WELCOME = home page and what's new at SearchKing.
      • HELP FORUMS = takes you to the SearchKing Forums where there is always someone to help.

LET'S GET STARTED

  1. FIRST STEP On the left panel under "Settings" - You will see "Site Options" this is where you will change the configurations.
    • Click on Site Options
    • Main / Generic Options
    • Global Settings - this is where you will change your password and any other details you want to change.
      • Based on GMT, what offset should we use
      • Path to button images
      • Home Page URL: (Do NOT add a trailing "/")
      • eMail Address:
      • Default Language:
      • Admin Password:
    • Display Attributes - this is where you will change colors
      • Page Background Color:
      • Window Color:
      • Title Bar Color:
      • Title Bar Font Color:
      • Regular Font Color:
      • Regular Font Face:
      • Regular Font Size:
    • Going back to "Site Options" click on Main Options, you will see:
    • Hyperseek Main Settings - this is where you will sit you meta tags.
      • What is the name of your search engine ?
      • Link TEXT for the "Home" link in your hyperseek menus:
      • Turn "Adult Filter" on?:
      • Enable or Disable Logging?
      • Default META Title Value
      • Default META Description Value
      • Default META Keywords Value

  2. PAGE DESIGN

      On the left panel under "Admin" - Click on "Hyperseek" to change your coding.

    • Template Editor = this is where you will change the coding.

        Under the Main Page Templates..

      • YOUR HOME PAGE - You will edit the html coding for the home page.
        • Copy the entire original html coding from hyperseek.
        • Save on hard drive or disk so you will have a back up (put in safe place).
        • Build your personal html coding in any page builder.
        • Paste back in new home page thru the admin/Hyperseek
      • DEFAULT- This will edit ALL of the pages in the categories to make them all the same.
        • Copy the entire original html coding from hyperseek.

        • Build your personal html coding in any page builder.
        • Paste back in new home page thru the admin/Hyperseek
      • Pages for each Category.. - editing your cateogry pages
      • Other Page Templates... - editing other pages.
      • Non-Page Templates... - editing non-pages.
