Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy

Author EL JAMES

Book Reviews of:

I jumped on the "Fifty Shades" bandwagon because of "the media" was abuzz about this "sexy and fun" new book. I uploaded it to my nook expecting to giggle, squirm and possibly even take a bit of delight in the apparently graphic sexuality on its pages.

I don't believe I've been spanked since 1959, and it was at the hands of my parents.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Young virgin meets formerly abused man, man tries to make her his sexual submissive, girl lives in fear but yearns to please him. You get the point. Some argue that the storyline (and graphic sex, no doubt) provides escapism for its readers. I would have no problem with this rationale if the book wasn't gaining popularity on the idea that it's both fun ("mommy porn") and positive ("a true love story").

What I found, however, was a dangerous story about control, abuse and a young woman desperate to please a man. Pretty much everything I despise.

Fifty Shades Darker

So yes, I did end up reading the second part of the Fifty Shades trilogy

The story picks up pretty much a few days after the first one. To me, this clearly showed that the author had written up atleast the first part with the second in mind or split a larger story appropriately. Things start getting steamier and faster with the second part. A villain is introduced (surprised me) and all characters from the first book reappear. There is definitely a semblance of a plot – something the first one almost lacked.

Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy #3

Fifty Shades Freed

After reading the books, this was a welcome addition and gave even greater insight into a complicated man.

Anastasia Steele Grey and Christian Grey on their honeymoon after a short engagement and even shorter courtship. Even though they are obviously in love and manage to positively affect each other, life is far from a perfect paradise.

Ana continues to adjust to her new life as the wife a gazillionaire. At the same time, she wants to make a name for herself professionally, but finds that difficult with her newly-acquired fame. It's a struggle many woman face. We want to be independent.

Overall, the characters are fascinating. The story is compelling. The words are well-written. It was definitely worth the hours I spent reading, and it went by quickly. Plus, it was super hot. And I even managed to get through this book without blushing.
